What Information We Collect
We only collect personal information that is relevant to our interactions with you. This includes information you provide directly, payment information for donations, and some data collected automatically through cookies and analytics tools. Below is a breakdown of the types of information we collect:

-
Information You Provide to Us: When you interact with KPA (for example, by making a donation, filling out a form, or signing up for our newsletter), you may give us personal details such as your name, email address, and any other information you choose to provide. This also includes any information you submit through our contact forms.
-
Donation and Payment Information: If you donate or make a payment through our website, your payment details are handled securely by our payment processor.
-
Information Collected Automatically: Like most websites, our site automatically collects certain data about your visit through cookies and analytics, as described in more detail below.
How We Use the Information
We use the personal and usage information we collect for the following purposes:

-
To Process Donations and Transactions
-
To Communicate with You: We may use your contact information (such as email or mailing address) to send you confirmations, acknowledgments, and updates. This includes sending email newsletters and updates about our activities if you have opted to receive them.
-
To Respond to Inquiries: If you send us a question, request, or message (for example, via a contact form or email), we will use the information you provide to respond to you.
-
To Improve Our Website and Services: We analyze the data we collect (especially the anonymous website usage data) to understand how our site is used. This helps us identify what content is of most interest to visitors, fix navigation or technical issues, and enhance your experience on the site.
-
To Comply with Legal and Tax Obligations: As a nonprofit, we may need to use and retain certain information for legal, accounting, or tax purposes. For example, U.S. tax law requires that we keep records of donations (including donor names and donation amounts) for tax reporting and receipt purposes. We may also use or disclose information if necessary to meet any applicable laws, regulations, legal processes, or enforceable governmental requests (such as cooperating with lawful information requests or audits).
We will only use your personal information for the purposes above or for purposes that we explain to you at the time you provide the information. We do not use your personal data for any unrelated purposes, and we do not engage in unsolicited marketing to you unless you have subscribed to our communications.
Who We Share Information With
Kansas Pet Advocates respects your privacy. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third parties for marketing or fundraising purposes. We only share your information in limited ways, outlined below, in order to run our operations and provide our services. All third parties we work with are trusted service providers who use your data only to perform services on our behalf and not for their own independent use.
The types of third parties with whom we may share information include:

-
Stripe: When you make an online donation or payment, your payment details are sent directly to Stripe (our secure payment processor) for processing. Stripe uses your information to process the transaction and will handle sensitive financial data (like credit card numbers) in a secure, encrypted manner. Stripe is PCI-DSS compliant. We do not see or store your full payment information, as Stripe processes it on our behalf. (Stripe may retain your payment data as necessary for things like processing refunds or complying with their legal obligations, but they are not allowed to use it for other purposes.) By using our donation form, you are also subject to Stripe’s privacy and security practices.
-
Email Service Provider: If you sign up for our email newsletter or updates, we share your name and email address with the Email Service Provider we use to manage and send our email communications. Our Email Service Provider stores this information to help us design and send out newsletters or announcements. They act on our instructions and are not permitted to use your email for any purpose other than sending KPA communications.
-
Wix (Website Host): Our website is built and hosted on the Wix platform. Wix may have access to certain technical data about your visit (such as your IP address or device information) to facilitate the operation of the site and provide analytic tools to us. Wix places essential cookies needed for site functionality (see Cookies and Tracking below) and may collect aggregated data about site performance and visits. Wix does not use the personal information of our visitors for its own marketing; it primarily processes data to keep our site running and secure.
-
Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, to gather anonymized statistical information about how visitors use our site.
We may disclose information to other third parties only in a few exceptional cases, such as: if you ask or consent to such sharing; or if we are required by law or legal process (for example, a court order or audit) to disclose certain data; or if we need to work with advisors (like accountants or attorneys) who are also bound to keep the information confidential.
Your Choices and Control Over Your Information
We believe in giving you control over your personal information. You have several choices regarding how your data is used and shared:

-
Email Opt-Out: If at any time you no longer wish to receive our newsletter or promotional emails, you can unsubscribe. Every email we send through Constant Contact includes an “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom – clicking that will remove you from our mailing list.
-
Contact Us Directly: Request removal by contacting us at info@kspetadvocates.org.
-
Cookie Preferences: Most web browsers allow you to control or block cookies. See the Cookie and Tracking section of our policy below.
-
Accessing or Updating Your Information: If you have provided personal information to us (such as when making a donation or signing up for emails), you have the right to request corrections or updates to that information.
-
Deleting Your Information: You may request that we delete the personal information you have provided to us. Please note that we may need to retain certain records for a period of time to comply with legal or financial obligations.
Donor Privacy
We deeply appreciate the generosity of our donors and are committed to respecting your privacy. If you donate to Kansas Pet Advocates, the following principles apply to your information:

-
Use of Donor Information: We will use your donor information (such as name, contact details, and donation amount) only for purposes related to processing your donation, maintaining our donation records, and communicating with you about your donation. This includes sending donation receipts for your records/tax purposes and thank-you letters or emails to express our gratitude.
-
Anonymity and Recognition: We will not publish or publicly announce your name or donation without your permission. By default, we treat all donations as private.
-
No Sharing of Donor Information: Kansas Pet Advocates does not sell, share, or trade our donors’ personal information with any other organization.
-
Third-Party Processors: We use a third-party service provider to process donations. Our payment processor will receive your payment information to complete the transaction, but they are not allowed to use it for other purposes. We may also use secure databases or donor management tools to organize our donor records; any such tools are used under strict confidentiality and security agreements. All access to donor financial information is limited to our professional staff/board members who need to process or manage those records.
Security
We take the security of your personal information seriously and have implemented measures to protect it. However, please remember that no website or internet transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International Transfers
Wix and our other service providers operate globally, meaning your data may be transferred and stored in countries outside your own. Where required, safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent protections are applied.
Children’s Privacy
Our website and services are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. In accordance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in the U.S., if we become aware that we have inadvertently received personal information from a child under 13 without verifiable parental consent, we will delete that information from our records.
External Links
Our website may contain links to websites or resources that are not operated by Kansas Pet Advocates. For example, we might link to partner organizations, social media pages, or reference materials. Please be aware that this Privacy and Cookie Policy applies only to our own website and content. Once you click on an external link and leave our site, we do not have control over the content, security, or privacy practices of the other site. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of third-party websites. Those sites may have their own privacy and cookie policies or terms of use, which could be different from ours.
Cookies and Tracking
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to improve your experience and help us understand how the site is used.

-
What cookies do: Cookies are small files placed on your device that allow the website to recognize your browser. We use them for tasks like ensuring the site loads properly, remembering preferences, and understanding traffic through tools such as Google Analytics.
-
Types of cookies we use:
-
Essential cookies – required for the site to function (e.g., security, donation processing, forms).
-
Analytics cookies – help us see how visitors use the site so we can improve content and design.
-
Third-party tools – some features, such as newsletter sign-ups or donations (processed through Stripe and our Email Service Provider), may place cookies to operate properly.
-
Functional Cookies – These cookies enable additional functionality or personalization on the site. They are not strictly necessary for basic operation, but they remember certain choices you make to enhance your experience.
-
We do not sell your personal information, and cookie data is used only to support the operation and improvement of our site.
Cookie Consent and Control:
Since our primary audience is in the U.S. and we do not use invasive tracking, we currently use an implied consent approach for cookies. By using our website, you agree to the placement of cookies as described here. If you prefer not to allow cookies, you have the following options:

-
Adjust your browser settings to refuse non-essential cookies.
-
Use browser privacy modes (such as incognito or private mode), which typically delete cookies when you close the session.
-
Consider using the Google Analytics opt-out browser.
Keep in mind that disabling cookies may affect your experience. For example, if essential cookies are blocked, certain features or pages might not work correctly.
We do not currently respond to “Do Not Track” signals, as noted earlier, because our tracking is limited and there is no industry consensus on DNT. Instead, we give you direct control via the methods above.
Changes and Updates to This Policy
From time to time, we may update this Privacy and Cookie Policy to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or for other reasons. When we make changes, we will post the updated policy on this page and change the “Effective Date” at the top to indicate when the policy was last revised. Any changes will become effective when we post the revised policy.
Your continued use of our website after any changes to this Privacy and Cookie Policy signifies your acceptance of the updated terms. If you do not agree to the changes, you should stop using our site and services, and you can contact us if you have concerns.
Thank you for taking the time to read our Privacy and Cookie Policy. If you have any questions or feedback regarding this policy or our privacy practices, please contact us at info@kspetadvocates.org.
