Share Your Stories with KPA to Bring Action!
Shelters and rescues are dealing with a serious animal overpopulation problem across Kansas. Kansas Pet Advocates (KPA) is urging the administration to help shelters and rescues manage their population by clarifying policies and regulations to:
Permit the transfer of sick dogs and cats to other licensed shelters or rescues, and place sick cats in foster homes
Eliminate the burdensome requirement that shelters and rescues have spay-neuter agreements with other licensed shelters and rescues signed by AFI prior to transfer
Change the stray-hold interpretation to:
Count weekends and holidays when a shelter is open as part of the three days
Allow shelters to hold neonates and sick animals offsite at fosters during the three-day period, and post photos near the entrance to the public
We are collecting stories of how the current interpretation of sick animal transfer, unaltered animal transfer, and stray-hold requirements are impacting your operations, the lives of animals, and the mental health of staff and volunteers. Photos are encouraged.
Submit your stories to Reily Goyne.
